School Crest

THE CREST OF THE CONGREGATION OF CHRISTIAN BROTHERS.

The design, which the Christian Brothers use as a Crest, is highly symbolic.

crestThe Star reminds us that those “who instruct many to justice shall shine like stars for all eternity.” (Daniel 12.13). The star is a symbol of enlightenment, guidance and instruction.

The Cross is the symbol of Christ: for the religious teacher is concerned above all with the spreading and guarding of the Christian faith.

The Circle is the symbol of eternity and of eternal values to which we should be committed.

The Open Book indicates that all learning is to be brought to the young and the two letters on the open pages, Alpha and Omega, are a reminder that “God is the first and last, the beginning and the end.” (Rev. 32:13) and that all knowledge begins and ends with Him.

The Motto ‘Facere et Docere’ ~ “To Do and to Teach” reminds the Brothers that their lives and their actions , modeled on those of Christ, are sure means of leading others to Him by word and example. It is a constant reminder of the promise of Christ to His followers, “But he that shall do and teach shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven” (Matthew 5: 9).

Congregatio Fratrum Christianorum, The Congregation of Christian Brothers was the first Congregation of religious men, founded in Ireland, whose constitution received formal confirmation of the Holy See. The Celtic lettering and tracery are used as a reminder of the Irish origins of the Congregation.
