October 2014 Newsletter

Parent/Teacher Meetings
The annual Parent/Teacher meetings will take place this week on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October. By now everybody should have received an appointment time to meet the class teacher. We greatly value these meetings and I ask that you make every possible effort to attend. School will close at the regular time of 1.50pm for the Junior
and Senior Infant classes on Wednesday and Thursday. Pupils in classes from First to
Sixth will finish 15 minutes early on both days, with school closing at 2.35pm.

Fun Walk and Fun Run 2014
This year’s events were a great success. Thanks to everybody for making it so enjoyable – the
pupils for dressing so well and collecting so much money, €5,630, the staff for getting into the spirit of the day with some great costumes and the parents for sponsorship, supervision and supporting the children on the day. It really was a fun day and long may the tradition of the C.B.S. Fun Walk and Fun Run continue.

Mid-term Break
School will be closed next week for the Mid-term Break, Monday 27th to Friday 31st October. School will re-open on Monday 3rd November.

The attendance figure for September was 95.6%. To date, the October figure is 94.9%. We
will continue to highlight the need for good school attendance as we firmly believe that every day counts.

Stay Safe Programme
The Stay Safe programme teaches children about personal safety and lessons are taught each
y ear as part of our school’s Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE). The process of updating the programme for primary schools is at an advanced stage and a new programme should be ready for use in schools by September 2015. If you feel that you would like to give feedback on Stay Safe you can do so through the following link. Alternatively, you can go to the Stay Safe website, w here you can also complete the survey.
Financial Contributions
A reminder that we are still accepting the following contributions –
Photocopying and Art – €20 per pupil iPad – €10 per pupil
Parents’ Council – €30 per family.

World Kickboxing Championships
One of our pupils in fourth class, Adrian Bialkowski, will travel to Prague next month to
participate in the World Kickboxing Championships. We plan to hold a No Uniform Day on Thursday of this week, 23rd October, to assist with the expenses involved in the trip. On behalf of everybody at C.B.S. Primary School I wish Adrian well with his final preparations for the competition.
