School Football Team
The boys on the school football team contested the Roinn B County Final on Monday 20th November. It was a great achievement to reach the final as it is a rare event for us. Our last occasion was in 2006. In this year’s final they came up against a very strong Ferns team who proved to be worthy County Champions. On behalf of everybody connected with the school I thank the boys for representing the school so well over the course of the competition. I also thank Bobby Cummings for his time in preparing the boys. We also appreciate the assistance given by parents, Philip Browne and Conor Kavanagh.
Shoebox Appeal
The shoebox appeal was another success this year. A total of 84 boxes were brought in by the children. Thank you again for your support.
Attendance
I ask that you keep in mind the importance of the children attending school as much as possible. The whole school attendance figure from the start of the school year to date is 95.5%, which is exactly the same figure as I reported in October.
School Mass December 8th
Friday December 8th is a holy day. School will be open that day and the occasion will be marked with the celebration of mass in Bride Street Church at 11.30a.m. Our school chaplain and Chairperson of the Board of Management, Fr. Aodhán Marken, will celebrate the mass. Children from a number of classes will do the readings, the Prayers of the Faithful and bring the Offertory Gifts to the altar. The members of the school choir will also enhance the liturgy with their beautiful singing. Pupils from all classes, Junior Infants to Sixth Class, will attend the mass and family members will be very welcome. Children of different faiths can remain in school during the mass and they will be supervised by a teacher.
Carol Service
Another date for your diary is our school Carol Service which will be held in Bride Street Church on Thursday 21st December, commencing at 7.30p.m. This promises to be a wonderful celebration in the lead up to Christmas. Please help us to spread the word. We would love to see as many people as possible attending.

Christmas Closure
The Christmas Holidays will commence at 12.45p.m. on Friday 22nd December. Please note the early closure. In last month’s newsletter we inadvertently stated that school would finish at the regular
times of 1.50p.m. and 2.50p.m. Following the holidays school will re-open on Monday 8th January 2018.
Christmas Annuals
The children who ordered the Christmas Annuals will receive them on Monday 4th December.
Monthly Newsletter
The vast majority of families receive the monthly newsletter by e-mail. In fact there are just 20 hard copies passed on to families each month. If you would like to change to receiving it by e-mail your child can bring the address to our school secretary, Mary Goodison.
Keeping up to Date
The school is a very busy place with so many activities each week. Our Facebook page is updated regularly and you could also check out the CBS Blog on the homepage of the school’s website.
Cake Sale
We plan to hold a Cake Sale from 10a.m. on Wednesday 13th December in Rooms 5 and 6 of the single-storey building. The money raised will go to the Parent Association and help with the costs associated with purchasing books for the reading initiative which is on-going in the school. The children in classes from 3rd to 6th will be involved in organising the event. Donations of baked produce will be gratefully accepted on the morning of the Cake Sale.
Places Available for September 2018
There are places available for the coming school year. Please help us to spread the word. Application forms can be completed on the school’s website or can be requested from Mary in the office.
