Mobile Phones

  • Mobile phones are a tremendous asset in the area of communication.  However, the necessity for pupils to have mobile phones in school is questionable.
  • It is the school’s experience that incoming calls and texts have been a distraction and a nuisance in the class situation.  At times, mobile phones have been used to pass unsavoury text messages.  Phones have also been used to harass or bully children.  Another concern is the theft or loss of mobile phones.
  • The school has always been very accommodating in relation to pupils making phone calls from the secretary’s office.  This will continue to be the case.
  • Except in exceptional circumstances, pupils having and / or using mobile phones in school and in all school related activities is discouraged.
  • If there is a genuine reason for a pupil to have a mobile phone in school a parent may apply in writing to the Principal for approval.
  • If approval is given, parents will be asked to sign a Declaration of Acceptance of the terms.
  • If a pupil has a mobile phone in school without permission the phone will be held by the school Principal for collection by a parent.
