Whole School Evaluation – Management, Leadership and Learning (WSE-MLL)

The visit by the Department of Education inspectors was a very good experience for the school. We are

still awaiting the written report. However, the teachers and the Chairperson of the Board of

Management received a positive oral report from the inspectors at a meeting which was held after

school on Monday 13th February. We will inform parents when the final report is ready and it will be

made available on the Department of Education’s website.

We’d like to thank parents for responding in such great numbers to the parent questionnaires. 88.6%

of them were completed and returned. We have been heartened by the very positive feedback in the

questionnaires and the figures will be made available when the WSE Report is published.

Credit Union Quiz

Sixteen pupils represented the school in the Credit Union Quiz last month. One of the Under-11 teams

won the event and will now represent the school in the regional final on Sunday 5th March. We wish

Conal Dwyer, Jack Clare, James Browne and Dylan McBride well as they bid for a place in the All Ireland

Book Fair

Our annual Book Fair will take place in the school from Friday 3rd March to Thursday 9th March. Each

class will have a time slot to view the books and a separate time to make purchases. Parents will be

welcome to come along at the purchasing times. Parents of pupils in the Junior and Senior Infant

classes can also visit the Book Fair when collecting the children at 1.50p.m. The children will be given a

World Book Day voucher, which will entitle them to a reduction of €1.50 on the book of their choice.

The school will receive commission in books and these books will go directly to classrooms to

supplement the class libraries. Last year books to the value of €940 were added to the class libraries.

Rackard League Handball

Three pupils represented the school in this year’s Rackard League Handball competition. Lucas Kehoe

and Kian Roche won silver medals as runners-up in the Under-11 County Doubles Final. Jamie Barnes

won the Under-11 County Singles title for the second year in a row.

We would like to remind parents and guardians of the importance of the children having as high an

attendance rate as possible. Every day does count. You will be aware that the school is legally obliged

to report absences in excess of 20 days. Five children have been reported so far in this school year. 20

days equates to four school weeks, which is too much time to miss in school. The overall attendance

figure is very good. However, there are some pupils who have poor or very poor attendance. The

February attendance figure was 94.2%, January’s figure was 93.8% and the school year-to-date figure,

September ’16 to February ’17, is 94.5%. If you would like to know your child’s attendance information

for this school year you can write a note in the homework journal for the Principal’s attention.

Credit Union Savings Scheme

A reminder that the saving scheme, which is administered by Wexford Credit Union, is on-going each

Friday between 8.40a.m and 9.05a.m. If your child is not a member but would like to join, forms can be

collected from the office.

School Car Park

You will be aware of the Board of Management’s decision not to allow the car park to be used for

dropping off children in the morning and collecting the children at the end of the school day. The

decision was taken on Health and Safety grounds. We would like to thank everybody for their co-

operation with the change and the new arrangement is working very well.
