December 2017 Newsletter

Cake Sale
The cake sale was a great success. Well done to the children in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes for organising the event. There were also donations of produce from families of children in other classes. There was a great buzz around the school that morning and €276.70 was raised for the Parent Association.

Hurling Before School
The hurling before school sessions proved to be very popular and I’d like to thank Willie Cleary for organising that for us over the last couple of months. Those before school sessions have now finished but in January we will have the opportunity to continue with hurling coaching during school time under the direction of Ray Harris who is Games Promotion Officer with Faythe Harriers.

Christmas Recycling Decoration Competition
Each year we provide the children with an opportunity to enter the Wexford County Council Christmas Recycling Decoration Competition. Over the years the children have produced some beautiful work and our pupils are often among the prize-winners. This year the pupils did very well again and the three prize-winners all came first in their categories! The winners were Gabija Bielyte, who was overall winner in 3rd Class, Liam Dempsey won the 6th Class category and the boys in Mr Cummings’ 6th Class won the overall group winner prize. A special word of thanks goes to Helen McLean who provided great guidance and assistance to the 6th Class pupils with their group entry.

In last month’s newsletter I referred to the attendance being 95.5% up to that point. The up to date attendance figure for this school year is now 94.7%.

Santa will visit the school on Wednesday 20th December and he will meet with the children in the Junior Infant, Senior Infant and First Classes.

Carol Service
A reminder that we will be holding our school Christmas Carol Service in Bride Street Church at 7.30p.m. on Thursday 21st December. It promises to be a beautiful celebration and we ask that you spread the word and encourage friends and family members to attend. There will be a number of guest performers and the children will be very involved throughout the Carol Service. The pupils will be sitting in their class groups during the Carol Service and we ask that they would be in Bride Street Church at 7.15p.m. The children won’t need to wear their school uniforms that evening and we encourage everybody to wear Santa hats to add to the festive occasion. We expect that the Carol
Service will be over by 8.30p.m. At the end of the service there will be a retiring collection to support the work of Wexford Women’s Refuge.

Santa Hat Day
Friday 22nd December will be the final day of this term and we would like to continue the tradition of the children and staff wearing Santa hats. There will also be free draws for selection boxes in each class that day.

Christmas Holidays
The Christmas Holidays will start on Friday 22nd December when the school closes at 12.45p.m. The new term will commence on Monday 8th January 2018.

On behalf of all of us in the school, I would like to wish you and your family a very enjoyable Christmas. Thank you for your continued support for the work of the school.
