“Concerned Parents for Secondary Education in Wexford”

The following is taken from a letter which I received from Lisa McDonald, Chairperson of “Concerned Parents for Secondary Education in Wexford”.

“The shortage of places in secondary schools is approaching crisis point and a major source of frustration and anxiety for the parents of students currently in the primary schools system in Co. Wexford.

We have recently formed a committee with the working title “Concerned Parents for Secondary Education in Wexford”. We are holding a public meeting on Wednesday, the 16th of December 2015 at 8 pm in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford. We encourage all concerned parents to attend.

The purpose of the meeting is as follows:

1. To construct a campaign that will result in secondary school places being made available on a fairer and more appropriate basis than currently exists in Wexford.

2. To quantify the demographics of this age group currently in the system, projected from 2015 to 2025.

3. Identify and discuss the views of parents as to short-term and long term solutions to the problem.

4. To establish a parent grouping from each primary school catchment area to monitor the situation in their area and lobby public representatives for a resolution to this vital issue. Local parent associations and boards of management will be constantly informed of progress or the lack of.”

Signs of Christmas
With just a week of school time before the holidays, there are lots of signs of Christmas around the school. Mary Goodison, our school secretary, has put some lovely festive paintings on windows. We have two Christmas trees in place with decorations made by the children. There is also a beautiful crib on display in the hallway near the offices. The boys in Mr.Cummings’ sixth class have been decorating Christmas logs and they did a great job painting the windows in the corridor of the Old Block. Br Kinsella’s sixth class pupils made beautiful batik versions of the crib scene. Carols and singing can be heard around the school as the choir members practise for the Carol Service and pupils in classes prepare their Christmas Plays. Some classes will be going ice skating this week or attending a Christmas play in the Arts Centre or taking a trip to the cinema. Santa will even visit the school to meet the children in classes from Junior Infants to 2
nd Class. We will be putting photos on the CBS Blog on the website between now and Tuesday 22nd December. Check out

On behalf of all of us here in C.B.S. Primary School, I wish you a Happy Christmas and an enjoyable holiday time.
