[PREVIOUS BOOK SPOILERS]

Slawter! By Darren Shan.

Book Three of the Demonata.

A year passes:

A year has passed since Dervish Grady, uncle of Grubbitch Grady, has entered the universe of the Demonata to face Lord Loss on the Demon Master’s terms. Meanwhile, his body remains zombified on Earth. At the end of the first book, Grubbs tended to his bodily needs, eating, washing, things that Dervish can no longer do alone. Then Dervish wakes up. Happily Ever After. The End. Or so they thought.

A month later, things aren’t going well, Dervish descends into terrifying nightmares every night, often attacking Grubbs in his sleep. Anything sharp has been bordered up and hidden in the mansion. But when two visitors arrive at the door, everything begins to change. The first is a Lambs representative, Prae Athim. After last years’ worrying events when Grubbs’ brother Bill-E became a werewolf, Prae Athim doesn’t believe the cure is all that trust worthy. Bill-E believes Dervish is his father when really is Grubbs’ half brother.

The second visitor has arrived on a somewhat lighter note, Davida Haym; a horror film writer has a huge idea on her next creation. Demons. Davida needs Dervish for ‘realism purposes’. Dervish, first apprehensive on the morbid topic, finally agrees. So Grubbs, Bill-E and Dervish are whisked away to the deserted, newly renovated village. Except it’s not deserted. Hundreds of members from cast, crew and family now occupy Slawter.

While the rest of the congregation feel safe with the plastic demons Grubbs is not so sure. Disappearances occur, secrecy is everywhere, no way out. Grubbs has no one to trust. Not even his uncle….

Lights, Camera, Slawter!

This is a book that will keep you bound to your chair, seat or bed. The only thing that I saw wrong was the second hand, used up sequel feeling at the beginning, but as the book literally tore on, the feeling quickly evaporated. Darren Shan has not disappointed.

A Series of Unfortunate Events- The Bad Beginning

Warning to the faint-hearted: do not pick up this book, just leave it alone. Walk away now. There must be a happy book somewhere in the bookshop………..still here, well, you’ve been warned.

During a visit to Briny Beach, Sunny, Klaus and Violet Baudelaire were told that their house was destroyed in a fire. Their parents had also perished in it. They were sent to a guardian named Count Olaf who is a notorious villain and a terrible actor. This is a brilliant read and good for young readers. I’d give it ten out of ten.

The Fireworker's Daughter

 by Philip Pullman.

This is a story about a young Chinese girl. Her father is a firework maker. She wants to be a firework maker but her father wants her to get married.

This is a very good book with lots of twists; it is short but very good all the same. I’d recommend it for someone who has just started to discover reading. I would give it about seven out of ten.

The Edge Chronicles is a real page-turner. It keeps you hanging on chapter after chapter. Boy Twig and crew go on an amazing adventure which leaves you on the edge of your seat. He can only depend on his friend the talking bird. This is a brilliant book, the language is challenging but it is very understanding. I don’t think there is anything else to write about this book. It’s just magnificent!!!!

The Demonata

Lord Loss: Lord Loss, (by Darren Shan) is the first book in the Demonata series. The main character, Grubs Grady’s family are chess fanatics. But his family’s getting strange, letting slip things, which they perhaps shouldn’t. Grubs is noticing it. One night, his parents sent him to his Aunt’s to attend an alleged ballet. They bring his older sister Gret. Worried, he sneaks back home to find them dead, killed by the ruthless demon master Lord Loss and his servants. This leaves Grubs in a state of mental shock. Later, he goes to live with his strange uncle, Dervish, who has also confronted demons before… Lord Loss is an excellent opening for the Demonata.

The Demon Thief: Kernal Fleck can see lights. They are all shapes, sizes and colours. But these flashing mysteries have alienated him from other children. He gets increasingly lonely following a strange occurrence in which Kernal creates a blue window with the lights, that he enters, which he could not remember. He and his brother Art are forced to move to the quiet village of Paknison with their parents. Read on as Kernal discovers he was not meant to be in the world he lived in… Another thrilling book with non-stop action.

The Demon Thief
by Darren Shan.

Category: Horror/Fiction

Main Characters: Kernal Fleck, Sharmila, Narda, Raz, Beranabus, Shark, Dervish, Art Fleck, and Lord Loss

Kernal Fleck is no ordinary child; since he was born he could see strange lights. He asked everybody could they see them too. But the reply was always no. He grew used to the lights and strangely he could touch and move them. When he told someone about the lights they instantly disliked him and they would say something like “go watch some lights freak”. Kernal never had many friends after that but as far as he was concerned all he needed was his little baby brother Art. One night while at home in bed some of the lights (that he can see but no one else could) starts pulsing and when he joins them a portal appears. Suddenly a monster comes out of the portal, looks around the room, frowns and goes back into the portal. Kernal (half wetting himself from the fright of seeing this monster) cautiously steps after after the monster and enters the world of the Demonta!

I loved every minute of this book , it’s so entertaining and surprisingly gruesome. This book has loads of twists and turns, nearly every thing is in it: deaths, jokes, adventure, magic, etc. This book combines “Eragon”(by Christopher Paolini) “Darren Shan The Vampire Saga” and even some of the Harry Potter books (by J.K.Rowling) While reading this book I completely lost track of time, one minute- two o'clock, the next- six o'clock. Out of my many favourite books, it’s No 1.
