Hobbies

Soccer

My favourite hobby is playing soccer, I love playing it and I try to play it whenever I can. I play centre forward for Wexford Celtic and although I haven’t scored a goal so far this season I remain optimistic. A lot of students in our school like soccer and all of them love coming in on Monday after playing for our clubs and talk about all the gossip of the matches at the weekend.

Pool

Pool is a skilled sport played with cues. The object of the game is to pot all the balls of one colour and the black ball. If you pot a different ball it is a foul. When a foul is made your opponent takes two shots. A lot of people like pool in my school. In my opinion, Ronnie O’ Sullivan is the best player in the world.

Swimming

When I was about six years old I wanted to go swimming. So my dad brought me. I got in to the pool and swam the width seven times. And I kept going swimming for six years and my dad bought me a new membership for Whitford Hotel. So five times a week I go swimming. I have a lot of friends. My best friends are Mary and Andy who are lifeguards at the pool. And when I grow up I want to be a lifeguard just like Andy.

Music

For some people their hobbies are sports or reading but for me its guitar. I'm not sure if it is the georgeous sound it makes, the wonderful shape of the body or the music you can play on it, but I think guitars are brilliant. The very first guitar that was made was created by Mr.Gibson and Les Paul, hence the make Gison Les Paul. There are so many types of guitar, such as, Gibsons, Fenders, Rickenbacker, Yamaha, Encore, Empaphon, Squire and Ibanez. I was inspired to play guitar by the music my dad played (on CD). Musicians like the Edge of U2, Slash of Velvet Revolver and Guns and Roses, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.

My music teacher has given me great encouragement.

  Archery

When I was small I watched old cowboy movies and my favourite were the Indians, because they had bows and arrows. One year we went to France and guess what I saw - a bow and arrow. So I asked my dad could I have it and he said NO! So years passed and I saved up my money and we went to France again….. And I got them. So I came home and started to do archery. It is a very hard sport and you need three things

1.   Strength - You need it because the string can be very tight, and when you pull it back you may need to hold it there for a while

2.   Precision - To hit a target may take more than ten minutes to get the aim right.

3.   Patience - Once again the wind can upset the arrow so you have to wait for the right time. Once you get the hang of it, it is really easy.

There is a club, which I go to in Enniscorthy on Wednesday for target practice. Sunday we go to a wood and hunt cardboard cut outs of deer! Archery is my favourite sport and it is really fun. Much more people should practice it!!!!!!!!!!!
